Short cocktail dresses are a party staple for most women these days and despite their length there are lots and lots of occasions when you can wear them.Cocktail dresses are far from being a dress that's only worn during more formal events. In fact they're popping up everywhere from nights out at the bar, to dinner parties, to a theatre performance!
As World War I drew to a close the American population was ready to celebrate life and women had fully embraced the simple elegance of cocktail dresses. In fact, the demand was so great that French designers who had only specialized in couture garments began to design for cocktail hour. These dresses stayed true to the sheath nature of designs of the past, but they also incorporated a chic design aesthetic to give hostesses and guests an elegant and fashion forward look.
However not long after WWI the French designers' styles began to evolve. Whereas cocktail dresses used to be very standard and even plain looking, suddenly elements of the designs began to change. Designs with trimmings in luscious satins and silks were standard and took America by storm. In fact, in the 1930's cocktail dresses began to emerge as standard wardrobe items. Stars of the day began to sport looks that transitioned easily from day to night.
Coming back to the issue of a dress that's flattering, there's probably no better example than an LBD. Come on, I think every girl's got one!Black is a slimming color, and there's just something so right about an LBD accessorized with some cool bling.A simple black cocktail dress of any style can be accessorized with some gold or silver jewellery for a sizzling look!
Cocktail dresses are however only one of the types of dresses available and there are many other styles of occasion wear to choose from such as prom dresses, ball gowns, party dresses, day dresses and evening dresses. No matter what the event is you are going to the most important thing is that you feel comfortable in what you are wearing. Try to leave yourself plenty of time to do your research and find the perfect dress.
